The Truth About the NATO/NTC War on Libya!

1. For 42 years Colonel Gaddafi used oil money to enrich Libya, to improve the lives of Libyans and to empower African states. This is why Gaddafi is alive, supported and continues to defy the West and speak the truth.

2. Both the West and the Arab world hated these facts because it affected their quest for power and profit. They wanted to lead Gaddafi but Gaddafi did not want to be led and instead used them as a stepping stone to his achieve his own aspirations and those he had for Libya and Africa.

3. 2011 - Foreign mercenaries pour into Libya via rebellions in Egypt and Tunisia, while Libyans and those in the capital support Gaddafi.

4. NATO then finds a few leaders amongst traitors in Gaddafi's military, Al-Qaeda and elsewhere who send mercenaries and gangs to instigate riots in Libya to create instability.

5. The uprising is defeated by Gaddafi so NATO sends in advisers, then special forces and then it's own special forces. NATO cuts off power and water supplies, destroys telecommunication centres and then bombs everything else including both military and civilian targets, including Gaddafi's family.

6. Further special forces are deployed and a media blackout is enforced and subsequent western media propaganda follows from the likes of the BBC and Al-Jazeera news.

7. Criminals and racists are then armed by NATO and let loose in Libya, with NATO air support paving the way for unrestrained looting and bloodshed.

8. August 2011 - The Western media spreads further propaganda that Gaddafi is defeated and it is all over.

9. It is far from over. The truth is that the NTC/Rebels cannot finish the job as we've seen in Sirte, Bani Walid, Tripoli, etc and the NATO bombing campaign continues. However, the Libyan Armed Forces continue to control much of the country, fighting continues in Tripoli and major cities, and despite media propaganda, the people hate the rebels who are young reckless men with guns.

10. We all know that as soon as NATO pulls out the entire country will fall into civil war. This is NATO's fault for aiding terrorists, for taking sides in internal conflicts, for telling lies and for committing war and war crimes in Libya.

The only person that can save Libya now is Gaddafi, which is why NATO and the West are trying their best to find and kill him before Libyans overthrow the NTC/Rebels, which will mean NATO and the West will have no choice but to leave Libya with their heads bowed low and their tails between their legs. History will show Gaddafi fought the most powerful enemy in the world and won! The NTC/Rebels will simultaneously be wiped out. The West will then feel Gaddafi's wrath, not by war, but by him choosing to do business with the economies of Russia, India and China, rather than the failing economies of the West who now need Gaddafi's oil more than ever.

Viva Colonel Gaddafi - Leader of the Revolution!

The alleged Mass Graves of Abu Salim contain nothing but Camel Bones 27/9/2011(France24 TV)

27/Sept/11 According to new reports NATO Special Ops have taken position in Sirte port in a mission to allow foreign Mercenaries to be dropped off the coast. Since the Western supply routes are disrupted and cut off by the Tarhuna Tribe, NATO decided to attack from the East which failed and now in its last desperate attempt, trying to attack from the sea using foreign Mercenaries.

US too broke for real war on Libya Solution =

Use The Radical Muslims From Al Shabab Al Qeada Against Libya!!

Fighting continues with NATO Special Ops around the port, whether NATO mission will be successful or not is yet to be seen.

After multiple defeats, NATO began a brutal and genocidal bombing of Sirte in order to terrorize its people in to submission, but the people continue the resistance. Hundreds of innocent people have been reported dead in the town, but the world bodies have been predominantly silent, waiting to leach Libyan oil.

26/Sept/11 Medics on the scene testified that the supposed mass grave of a massacre is fake, and the bone fragments are not human. Another devastating blow to NATO propaganda.

NATO has accused the Libyan Jamahariya Government of committing a massacre in Abu Saleen prison, but similar to most accusations, no evidence has been provided. Although some people were sentenced to death for treason from that prison, a massacre has never taken place, a fabricated propaganda lie orchestrated by Libyan enemies. Many CIA agents were executed by the Libyan Government after a failed coup which was headed by Colonel Khalifa Haftar who was operating from USA.

"medics with CNN staffers on the scene said the bones did not appear to be human." (from the mouth piece of NATO propaganda (source - CNN))

26/Sept/11 Heavy gunfire and explosions have been heard in the small town of Ragdaline according to new reports, fighting continues and witnesses suggests that oil refineries have been blown up by the Jamahariya Government few hours before NATO experts arrived and plan out the leaching of Libyan Resources.

French companies are already stealing Libyan resources from the sea, NATO warships are guarding Libyan off-shore oil refineries, and French companies are stealing the oil as we speak. Libyans refuse to allow NATO to steal more from inland refineries, the resources belong to Libyans, not to NATO and the Libyan government has vowed to continue resisting any theft and plunder of sovereign wealth.

26/Sept/11 Fighting was reported around and inside the town of Ghadames previously, but new reports suggests that NATO Mercenaries have fled the town fearing an entrapment.

Since the Tarhuna Tribe rose up and advancing West wards, NATO mercenaries are quick to leave Western towns because NATO bombs are not available in every city.

They have fled in fear, but finding it hard to regroup. Some fighters crossed the border and entered Tunisia to create a base, but fighting soon broke out between Tunisian Defence forces and NATO Mercenaries.

Rape was just one of many brutal tools used by NATO mercenaries to silence Libyans, and force them in to submission. Many brutal cases emerged, but no organization condemned such atrocities, nor promised to hold NATO responsible for the atrocities.

Cases after cases of brutal and merciless rapes in the hands of NATO mercenaries came forward, but the media completely silent.

Instead the media with International organizations fabricated stories about the Libyan Government using rape as a weapon of war, which was quickly sent to rubbish as a fabricated lie.

A set of Tripoli’s Green Square was constructed in Doha and people dressed as Libyan rebels were filmed taking over Green Square. This was the fake footage zoomed into living rooms all over the world.

The zone we have entered is a frightening one; however, the enemy’s psych-ops are a lot less effective in the age of the internet. While we must note those media organizations that have been totally compromised so that their crimes can be catalogued for future reference, we must also acknowledge the huge and impressive fightback staged by truth warriors all over the globe.

In order to show the world a scene of victorious rebels celebrating the conquest of Tripoli in Green Square, a set resembling Green Square was built in Doha, Qatar, but some significant details in the architecture of its ancient buildings were omitted.

The media lies have been countered with a powerful campaign on the worldwide web. Serbian hackers went to war with anti-Qaddafi sites, closing them down as quickly as they appeared. Pakistani websites carried information on the fake Green Square constructed in Doha.

Rappers posted videos calling Qaddafi an African hero. Minister Louis Farrakhan’s powerful presentations are all available on the net, allowing people to tune out of the mainstream lies, and articles are everywhere detailing the truth.

Independent news sources such as Pan-African Newswire, Black Agenda Report, Final Call, Modern Ghana, The Nigerian Voice, Ethiopia.org, Pravda, Mathaba News Agency, Centre for Research on Globalization, New Dawn Magazine, San Francisco Bay View and many others have been in the vanguard of providing a counterattack to the corporate media’s campaign of lies and deception.

LIBYA. Sirte. 18.9.2011. NATO bombing kills Civilians

In a telephone call to Reuters on Saturday, Moussa Ibrahim, a spokesman for the deposed Libyan leader, said that 354 people were killed as a result of NATO airstrike on a residential building and a hotel in Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte.

"NATO attacked the city of Sirte last night with more than 30 rockets directed at the city's main hotel and the Tamin building, which consists of more than 90 residential apartments," Ibrahim said. "The result is more than 354 dead and 89 still missing and almost 700 injured in one night."

He added that many more have been killed in Sirte in NATO air attacks since the beginning of September.

"In the last 17 days, more than 2,000 residents of the city of Sirte were killed in NATO air strikes," Ibrahim told the news agency.

Open letter to state officials of South Africa

To

President of the Republic of South Africa, President of the African National Congress Jacob Zuma,
...

President of the Congress of South African Trade Unions Sidumo Dlamini,

General Secretary of the South African Communist Party Blade Nzimande,

Laureate of Nobel Peace Prize Nelson Mandela

Dear Sirs,

The entire world is aware about assistance that Brother Leader Muammar al-Gaddafi has offered to South African fighters against Apartheid. The entire world knows the Brother Leader as a fearless fighter against racism.

As far back as March, 19, 1999, Sir Nelson Mandela said: We shall never forget Libya's material and moral support of our own struggle against racist apartheid rule. In August, 28, 2011 SACP Central Committee made a press statement where it said: "the CC strongly condemned NATO's illegal and aggressive role in Libya, driven by a regime change and a predatory economic agenda. NATO deliberately abused and flouted the spirit and letter of the no-fly-zone UN Security Council vote 1973, going far beyond the provisions of that vote". The ANC also affirms that "the ANC's key objective is the creation of a united, non-racial, non-sexist and democratic society".

Therefore, it was a big shock for our community to realize that the Government of South Africa had decided to support the imperialist aggression against the friendly Libya and to recognize the so-called Transitional National Council as representative of Libyan People.

The adherents of TNC have continuously demonstrated their open racism by numerous murders of black-skinned Africans. We have all seen lynching of Black Africans by gangsters in Benghazi (the video made by an eyewitness was uploaded on the Internet). We all know about devastation by NATO-rebels of Libyan cities where Black Africans population was predominate (as an example, the small town of Tawerga, which had 11 000 habitants before the cleansing and has no one now). The entire world has heard about abuse of black women by racists-sexists after occupation of Tripoli. (for example, cases in the refugee camp and in school according to representatives of the Red Cross and eyewitnesses).

Recognition of the TNC, as representative of the Libyan people, first, will justify the atrocities of the black Africans committed by rebels of TNC, and, secondly, lead to an increase the number of racially motivated crimes both in Libya and in other parts of the world.

Therefore, we suppose that the recognition of actually racist TNC by the South African government is not only a betrayal of the long-time ally and the legitimate government of Libya, Muammar al-Gaddafi personally, not only a betrayal of all the victims of racist acts in Libya, but also a betrayal of all black people in the world.

We know that bribery, blackmail and military pressure are tested methods of the colonial policies of the West against the peoples of Africa. We understand that it is very difficult to resist the West pressure, we appreciate your peace initiatives to regulate the situation in Libya and the strength that you have been showing during the last six months on the Libyan issue.

We encourage you to stop supporting racists of the TNC and their imperialist backers from NATO. Show that hardness, which you showed in the fight against apartheid! Help the people of Libya in their struggle against imperialist aggression of NATO and their racist mercenaries from TNC!

Do not forget that surrendering Libya without a fight to the imperialists, you open the door wider to Africa. After the establishment of the puppet regime in Cote d'Ivoire, the occupation of Libya and deployment of a network of U.S. bases in the Horn of Africa, will be only a matter of time when they will take your common home entirely, and when the entire African continent falls under the master's boots of the Owner of the New World.

Sincerely,

Executive Committee of the Information Department of Public Movement "For Gaddafi and his people" in the (former) USSR.

MASS GRAVE FOUND.

RAT LIES

By Martin Iqbal

In a truly stunning display of dishonesty, the BBC has reported, citing no evidence to back its claim, that a mass grave containing over 1,200 bodies has been found in Tripoli's Abu Salim prison complex. The BBC attempts to tie this 'finding' to the equally concocted 'Abu Salim prison massacre', as it claims that the bodies are those of the inmates supposedly killed in 1996.

See The  Video At:

YouTube

In a piece posted today after a NTC news conference, the BBC uses the headline: "More than 1,200 bodies found in Tripoli mass grave". Categorically, absolutely, unequivocally, this is an out-and-out lie; 1,200 bodies have not been found. Not a single body has been found. In fact, no excavation has been performed, and no more than 'several bone fragments' have been discovered, according to the NTC.
This is revealed to the reader within the BBC's own concocted report in the paragraphs that follow (emphasis mine): A mass grave believed to contain up to 1,270 bodies has been found in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, says the National Transitional Council (NTC). The remains are thought to be those of inmates who were killed by security forces in 1996 in the Abu Salim prison. ... Excavation at the site is expected to start soon. ... Several bone fragments and pieces of clothing have already been found in the top soil.

While the unelected, illegitimate terror council known as the NTC claims to have found merely 'several bone fragments', the BBC claims that 1,200 bodies have been found in its deliberately misleading headline.

Even this weak slew of lies from the BBC exposes the fragile nature of the 'Abu Salim massacre' propaganda, as it refers to the evidential basis of the event (emphasis mine): A few eyewitnesses have talked about the fact they were killed in their jail cells by grenades and sustained gunfire after a protest. Officials in the new government say they will need foreign forensic help to determine exactly what happened there.

The BBC's report contains testimony from a 'Sami Assadi', who claims to have lost two brothers in the incident. "Mixed feelings really. We are all happy because this revolution has succeeded, but when I stand here, I remember my brothers and many, many friends have been killed, just because they did not like Muammar Gaddafi."

The inclusion of this testimony is a blatant attempt to twist and distort the reality on the ground. The BBC suggests that the 'revolution' has succeeded. In reality the 'rebels' and the foreign soldiers & special forces leading them, don't even hold Tripoli, in addition to countless other locations still held by the Libyan resistance. These include Bani Walid and Sirte - locations now subject to NATO-prescribed blockades in an attempt to starve the resistance into submission, coupled with lethal bombing campaigns.

In its crude attempt to deceive the public, the BBC even manages to contradict itself in this one-page report. The testimony it provides above suggests that the alleged victims of the 'Abu Salim massacre' were killed because they "did not like Gaddafi", while the BBC itself claims earlier in the piece, that they were killed for protesting against conditions in the prison.

Associated Press has also picked up this story, citing rebel spokesperson Khalid al-Sherif: "We have discovered the truth about what the Libyan people have been waiting for for many years, and it is the bodies and remains of the Abu Salim massacre". As with the BBC piece, this report also admits that only a few bone fragments have been found and excavation has not even begun.

Most certainly, this 'mass grave' propaganda will drop out of the news without retraction from the NTC liars or the media lackeys that peddled it, as it turns out to be an utter falsehood. 'Abu Salim' is an event toted by globalist-Zionist funded Human Rights Watch as the trump card in the propaganda war against Libya. It is an event for which there is no physical evidence, and HRW's report on the event hinges on the testimony of one person who is now residing in the United States. Laughably, HRW even admits that they cannot independently verify a single detail of the man's claims.

Not even the Associated Press (AP) can hide any longer that rebels suffered a huge defeat at Bani Waled front! They admitted that they are abandoning it in huge numbers, tired of disorganisation and lack of amunition. Well, obviously they have no enough heart and ideals to fight for, unlike the loyalists who are fighting even with their bare hands.
As they say 'We will fight even if the fork in our kitchen is the only weapon left'. This is a big lesson of moral and righteousness. Bani Waled has proven impenetrable due to the big number of brave and adamant patriots.

One rebel Mohammed Andar, a 35-year-old former police officer, said he decided to return to his home in Zawiya after he was wounded by shrapnel in the back of his leg in an ambush on his brigade. He was being rushed to the hospital Wednesday.
His wounds were not serious enough to keep him from battle, but he felt it was pointless.
"A martyred father would be an honor for my children, but not in this chaotic, ill-planned way," he said while resting.

To enter
Bani Waled from the northwest, coming from Tripoli, NATO rebels and mercenaries must cross a steep valley, some 400 yards (meters) wide, that divides the city. Bani Waled residents hold the high ground on the other side, enabling them to rain down with rockets on fighters trying to approach the valley.

Osama al-Fasi, a field NATO rebels commander in charge of attacks on
Bani Waled, said his fighters were not prepared for such fierce resistance and blamed the NTC's military leadership for not providing the necessary ammunition, weapons and leadership to sustain a real attack on the city.
"We were shocked at the force of the resistance we faced," al-Fasi told The Associated Press.

On Friday, leaders of al-Fasi's rebel brigade, the Martyrs of 28 May, decided to officially desert the northern front and move their base to the southern front because the terrain is easier to fight through. Ofcourse that's just the invented excuse. The truth is, scared people rarely go back to the front, even to the 'easier ones' , they run back home as soon as they steal something, a car, or a TV.
Well traitors stay traitors, isn't it? Once a traitor, always a traitor!

Five tanks made in the 1970's and seized by NATO rebels last month arrived in Wadi Dinar at the rebels' positions on the city's northern outskirts last week, but have sat idle in desert checkpoints requiring maintenance. Fighters spend their days lounging on them, posing for photos from cell phones and using them to dry laundry.
"We feel very deflated and frustrated" said one man who was drying his pants on the tank, Hassan Abdel-Qadir.

Military rebel commander Daw Saleheen said it was impossible for the commanders to inform everyone of movements or information because the resources were not available.
"There are many fighters and we can't communicate to all of them," he said.

Lack of communication is proving fatal for the NATO rebels, although they are the ones to blame for the cutting of the communication, electricity and water from Libyan cities. It looks like they are harvesting what they planted, What goes around, comes around.

On Wednesday, a number of leaderless fighters attempted to push the northernmost checkpoint deeper into the city and enter the center via off-road routes.

Abdel-Salam Genouna planned the attack, which backfired when the residents of
Bani Waled ambushed the 10 cars on the expedition from hidden valleys, killing eight NATO rebels, according to Alaa Shafori, a doctor at a field hospital.
"It was a shock and we are lucky some of us survived at all."

"The remaining fighters have been left shell-shocked and uncertain if
Bani Waled is worth the fight." Bassam Turki, a 33-year-old fighter from Tripoli who went home after last week's battle.

Andar, the former police officer who quit the fight at
Bani Waled , said tribal loyalty was proving strong which makes it very difficult to gain local support for the NATO revolution.

Field NATO rebels commander Fathi Kirshadz said the majority of NATO rebels who were initaly attacking residents of
Bani Waled - DEFECTED!

Libya NATO rebels, Armed Criminal Gangs and Ignorat fanatic Muslims lead by Al Qeada ( Al Shabab).

ADDITION: The freshest news on Allibya TV is that more than 350 NATO rebels got killed in the latest attack on Bani Wallid, but the number of casualties continues to increase. NATO rebels were forced to withdraw more than 40km outside the perimeter of Bani Walid. Total debacle for NATO

NATO Genocide in Black Libyan Town of Tawerga, Part 2

The injured guys are saying "God, Libya, and Muammar only" The medical personnel are saying that all of these people are civilians, young people especially. They are saying that these people were just in the streets doing normal things when they were bombed. The guy around 8 minutes says "look this is the army, this old lady here?" The last thing he says is something along the lines of to those who are calling for this kind of democracy, screw you
*****
Most of this video is in Arabic but the pictures will tell a story of naked genocide being committed by NATO against a town of black Libyans. You will see men women and children who were slaughtered with the missile attack upon a vegetable market. You will also see possible targeting of animals by NATO. More than 15 were killed and several injured. I will be sending a dvd of this to all 100 US senators and Barack and Michelle Obama, and UN Secretary General as well as the so-called "International Criminal Court" in the Hague.

Incredible Scandal: 'Libya rebels admit attacks on women & children'

Rebel forces in Libya claim they are advancing in Colonel Gaddafi's home town of Sirte - one of the last loyalist bastions. Several thousand opposition fighters, backed by tanks and heavy weapons, have reportedly launched an offensive on the city. Russia says it's time to lift the UN-imposed no fly-zone in Libya, which was introduced to save civilians. Anti-war activists, though, maintain that NATO's role has nothing to do with any humanitarian mission.

Libya 17.9.2011. Resistance. RUN REBELS RUN!

Nato rebel forces licked their wounds on Saturday after a failed assault on the town of Bani Walid, and a spokesman for Muammar Gaddafi accused NATO of killing 354 people in overnight air strikes on the city of Sirte.

Moussa Ibrahim, contacted Reuters by satellite telephone to say Gaddafi was still in Libya, leading the "resistance" against his foes.

He said NATO air strikes on Sirte, Gaddafi's birthplace, had hit a residential building and a hotel, killing 354 people.

Libya News Of 25.09.2011 (Western Media)

Sirte is the Libyan city most associated with Gadhafi. Revolutionary fighters tried to push into the city last weekend but were driven back in fighting that killed at least 25 and wounded dozens.

Bani Walid & Sirte, Libya — Revolutionary forces battled their way back into a key stronghold of Moammar Gadhafi loyalists on Sunday, seizing control of the northern half of Bani Walid and fighting supporters of the fugitive dictator in the town center, said the fighters and a resident.

After a week of efforts to negotiate a peaceful surrender of Bani Walid — one of the last bastions of Gadhafi loyalists — anti-regime fighters launched a two-pronged assault on the town that soon dissolved into street fighting. But Gadhafi supporters have put up fierce resistance, and forced former rebels to retreat Saturday amid a barrage of rocket and mortar fire.

Bani Walid is one of three significant remaining bastions of support for Gadhafi, along with Sirte on the Mediterranean coast and Sabha in the southern desert. The surprisingly stiff resistance has continued despite the effective end of Gadhafi's nearly 42-year rule on Aug. 21, when Libyan fighters swept into the capital, Tripoli.

In the capital, anti-Gadhafi fighters captured Bouzaid Dourda, the former head of the regime's external security service, Sunday in the Libyan capital, said Anes Sharif, a spokesman for Tripoli's military council. A longtime Gadhafi insider, Dourda also served as prime minister in the 1990s.

Libya's new leaders have arrested several former high ranking regime officials, although many have fled the country or remain at large, including Gadhafi and his one-time heir apparent, Seif al-Islam Gadhafi.

Libyan fighters pushed back into the town Sunday, a day after retreating under heavy fire, said fighter Sobhi Warfali. He said revolutionary forces now control the northern half of the town and were battling regime loyalists in the center.

Resident Khalifa al-Talisi said "the rebels don't control the center yet, but everything from the city center to this (northern) side is liberated."

Around a mile from the town center, a cluster of abandoned houses in the desert showed signs of fierce fighting. The charred hulk of a car stood in front of a still-burning home that sent plumes of black smoke into the air.

Single gunshots, which appeared to be from snipers, occasionally echoed across the dusty town, and the thud of mortar fire shook the ground.

"The Gadhafi loyalists are throwing mortars and snipers are shooting at us from the center of the city," said Abdul-Bari al-Mitag, a 23-year-old fighter returning from the front line.

Abdullah Kenshil, a negotiator for the former rebels, said loyalist forces that withdrew from several cities after the fall of Tripoli have regrouped in Bani Walid.

"For them, it is a matter of life or death," he said. "They don't care if residents are killed in the middle."

Kenshil also said Gadhafi forces killed two tribal leaders who had taken part in talks to end the standoff peacefully. That could not be independently verified.

Despite the bloodshed, Kenshil said, "The door for peace is still open."

NATO, which has played a key role in hitting Gadhafi's forces over the six-month civil war, said Sunday that its warplanes hit a series of targets near Bani Walid a day earlier — a tank, two armed vehicles and one multiple rocket launcher. Airstrikes also pounded targets around Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte, and the towns of Waddan and Sabha in the southern desert.

A military commander for former rebels near Bani Walid, Abdel-Razak al-Nadouri, said a sizable force pushed into the town on Saturday but met heavy resistance and NATO asked them to pull back to allow the airstrikes.

"A large number of people entered Bani Walid, but we had to retreat because of heavy fire," he said. "Yesterday, NATO asked us to return seven kilometers (three miles) from Bani Walid because they were striking military bases and Grad rocket launchers."

A NATO official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss operations, denied that the alliance had asked the anti-Gadhafi forces to pull back.

The former rebels launched the assault on Bani Walid after negotiations for the town's surrender broke down Friday.

Libya's new leaders have also been trying to broker a deal for the surrender of Sirte, Gadhafi's hometown. But a deadline for the town's surrender expired Saturday, and a revolutionary commander taking part in the negotiations, Mustafa al-Rubaie, said "now all options are open."

Libyan fighters have advanced to within 20 miles (30 kilometers) west of Sirte, and in the east as far as the town of Harawa, some 35 miles (50 kilometers) from the city, according to al-Rubaie.

He said fighters from Harawa will lead the force into Sirte "because they are from the city and they are part of the Sirte people."

"I think it will not be a 100 percent peaceful takeover of Sirte. There will be pockets of loyalists," he said. "In general, the people of Sirte are all armed with light weapons, even youngsters."

Al-Rubaie said that over the past months, Gadhafi's forces which fled from all the eastern cities and from Misrata are all now concentrating in Sirte.

"We know that they are not going to give up easily," he said. "For them, it will be a matter of life or death."

Explosions rocked Sirte throughout the day as fighters pushing in on four roads came under heavy fire from loyalist snipers and artillery guns. Along the city's main thoroughfare, they faced close-range gunfights with loyalists hiding in apartment buildings and throwing hand grenades at them from windows.

Moftah Mohammed, 28, said snipers shot two of his friends as they advanced to fire a rocket-propelled grenade on a loyalist truck. When others approached to help the wounded, Gadhafi supporters opened fire and hurled hand grenades, injuring two more.

By evening, however, the fighters had pushed east along the city's main thoroughfare into its urban center, overrunning a TV station and pushing loyalists farther back. NATO warplanes patrolled overhead during the fighting, and revolutionary commanders said airstrikes took out some loyalist tanks, although that could not be confirmed immediately.

Walls along the town's main boulevard were pockmarked from heavy caliber machine-gun rounds, and the charred metal hulks of cars lined the streets in front of shuttered shops, some of which had been torched.

Gaping holes marred the walls of the TV building, and two of the Gadhafi regime's green flags still flew from the roof. Two tanks sat nearby, and rebel trucks with mounted machine guns raced forward while blasting at loyalist positions. In front of a convenience store, a group of men fired a half dozen mortars, yelling "God is great!" after each one flew into the distance.

Most of the fighters came from the western city of Misrata, which saw some of the fiercest fighting in the civil war that erupted after Libyans rose up against Gadhafi in mid-February. For the assault on Sirte, they have used many of the urban battle tactics developed in the defense of their own city, including blocking the road with shipping containers and filling them with sand so they couldn't be moved.

"When we fought in Misrata it was all new to us," said Adnan al-Zredi, 25, a former clothing store clerk who manned an anti-aircraft gun on the back of a truck. "Now we're fine in war. We know exactly what to do."

Some fighters said Gadhafi forces in the city had adopted similar tactics, building a similar barricade of shipping containers and sand elsewhere in the city. "They got some ideas from us," fighter Abdel-Aziz Salim said proudly.

He spoke from an elementary school on the city's edge that had been transformed into a military staging ground. Nearby, fighters pounded huge bullets into ammunition belts and armed rocket-propelled grenades before heading back to the front.

Sirte is the Libyan city most associated with Gadhafi. Revolutionary fighters tried to push into the city last weekend but were driven back in fighting that killed at least 25 and wounded dozens. They pulled back to regroup and let civilians leave the area, although the two sides exchanged fire daily.

In the meantime, more than 1,300 families have left the city, fighters said. A few dozen waiting at a checkpoint outside the city on Saturday described rapidly deteriorating conditions. Many had been clustered in basements, eating once a day and drinking water from nearby wells or water tanks. Some said their children had gotten diarrhea from the water.

Over the last week, fighters said they wouldn't attack until all the city's civilians were out. In the end, they decided to advance Saturday because they feared many families from Misrata that were stuck in the city were in danger, said a brigade commander, Mohammed al-Sugatri.

"There are lots of people from Misrata who are stuck in the city living in basements. They have no food or water and many of their children are sick so we had no choice but to attack," he said.

It remains unclear how many civilians remain in the city and how many of them remain loyal to Gadhafi and his forces.
