11.07.2010 - World Cup final

Netherlands 0-1 Spain

 (HT 0-0) After Extra Time:Iniesta, 116min

Andres Iniesta's extra-time strike won Spain the World Cup for the first time after they edged out the 10-man Netherlands in a scrappy, ill-tempered encounter in Johannesburg.
The Dutch adopted spoiling tactics to nullify the Spanish threat, forcing English referee Howard Webb to show five yellow cards in a first half which degenerated into a scrappy brawl - and led to 14 yellow cards and a red for the Netherlands' John Heitinga by the end of the game.

Germany   vs  Spain  = 0 : 1

There will be a new winner of the World Cup in 2010. The Netherlands will play Spain at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Sunday (11.07.2010) at 1930 BST for the right to lift the greatest sporting trophy on earth.

The Netherlands and Spain have never met

in the World Cup or Europe Cup before.

SPAIN HAVE REACHED THE WORLD CUP FINAL FOR THE FIRST TIME

Spain were definitely the better side.

Carles Puyol, who has just headed Spain into their first World Cup final, looks like he is in a state of shock. Two of the world's best players, Andres Iniesta and Bastian Schweinsteiger, exchange shirts, while Per Mertesacker looks heartbroken.

Spain - 93 min SUBSTITUTION  Spain send on Carlos Marchena for Xabi Alonso. He probably won't touch the ball, but he might be leaping around in a few seconds' time.

"You wonder why Germany waited for a 1-0 down until they began to play ...."
81 mins SUBSTITUTION

There's a change apiece, with Mario Gomez coming on for Sami Khedira for Germany and Fernando Torres replacing David Villa for Spain.

Spain - 81 min SUBSTITUTION   David Villa  gets off (81 min)

Germany - 81 min SUBSTITUTION   Khedira  gets off (81 min)

73 mins GOAL Germany 0-1 Spain (Puyol)

Despite all Spain's dominance, more frustration for Spain, they just cannot get that final ball right on the edge of the Germany box. It is still 0-0 and that will play on their minds with them having never been in a World Cup final.

Germany - 61 min SUBSTITUTION   Trochowski  gets off (61 min)

Another change for the Germans - Joachim Loew doesn't mess about. Toni Kroos comes on for Piotr Trochowski with just under half an hour remaining in Durban.

Spain nearly got the ball into Germany.. 2 times!!!! (57 min)

Germany - 51 min SUBSTITUTION    Boateng gets off (51 min)

Germany make a change early on in the second half and it's Jerome Boateng who comes off, with Marcell Jansen coming on in his place.

Spain fouls Germany (Podolski) 27min

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque:

“We know we can play better than we have done so far and we hope to do that in the semi-final. I think it will be a good advert for football.”

Netherlands vs  Spain or Germany in the FINAL with in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Uruguay vs Netherlands = .2 : 3  (HT 1 :1)

Netherlands: 3 x Yellow Card  / Uruguay: 2 x Yellow Card

Uruguay:  Forlan, 41 min / Pereira, 90+2 min
Netherlands: Van Bronckhorst, 18 min / Sneijder, 70 min / Robben, 73 min

Two goals in three second-half minutes by Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben helped to see off a resolute Uruguay side and put the Netherlands into a World Cup final for the first time since 1978.

The Dutch looked short of ideas for long periods but still had the quality in front of goal when it mattered to set up an all-European final with Spain or Germany in Johannesburg on Sunday.
